The Sidekick Slide is made by Motorola and features a smaller design. It measures 4.6 inches wide by 2.6 inches high by 0.6 inch deep and weighs 5.3 ounces. The Slide features a slide up QVGA screen, a compact QWERTY keyboard, full Sidekick messaging technology, and a black finish with deep purple accents. The Sidekick Slide also offers an integrated 1.3-megapixel camera, music player, microSD card slot support of 4 GB cards, Bluetooth wireless technology, and data transfer over T-Mobile’s EDGE network.

T-Mobile’s BlackBerry Curve is a stellar messaging device and a better voice phone; in addition, it makes free calls over Wi-Fi. And the Pearl is much more visually attractive. Windows Mobile aficionados may want to stick with T-Mobile’s venerable Dash, which has a full QWERTY keyboard and otherwise similar performance to the Shadow.

The T-Mobile Shadow measures 4.1 inches tall, 2.1 inches wide, and 0.6 inches thick, and weighs 5.3 ounces. This model runs Windows Mobile 6 Standard, so its 2.6-inch, QVGA display doesn’t function as a touchscreen. It includes software for push email, synchronizing personal information with Outlook or Exchange, and web access. It has a 2.0 megapixel camera with video support, a microSDHC card slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
This smartphone is in two colors: copper and sage.

The big, comfortable keyboard and large screen are easy on the fingers and the eyes, a refreshing change in a world where devices are getting more and more tiny and cramped. If you’re looking for a messaging device and the superior Curve just seems a little too small, the LX will be for you.

PCmag Reviewed T-Mobile Sidekick LX and gave out “Bottom Line:The Sidekick LX is fine for IM and basic e-mails, but its camera, media, and phone features aren’t nearly as luxurious as its sprawling keyboard and big, high-res display.Pros: Easy to use. Big, well-spaced keyboard. Roomy screen.Cons: Huge to carry. Mediocre phone. No stereo Bluetooth or video support.”

Listening to MP3s on the Sidekick’s speakers left much to be desired. The sound was weak and tinny, and any outside noise drowned out the volume, even at its highest level. However, quality improved when we plugged in a nice pair of headphones–thank goodness for the 3.5mm headphone jack.

CNET Reviewed T-Mobile Sidekick LX and gave out “The good: The T-Mobile Sidekick LX boasts a sleeker design with a larger and much-improved display. The handheld continues to be an excellent messaging device with a spacious full QWERTY keyboard. It also offers Bluetooth, MySpace Mobile integration, and a 1.3-megapixel camera. The bad: The Sidekick LX’s camera doesn’t record video and there’s no integrated Wi-Fi. The phone’s speaker is on the weaker side, and there’s no A2DP Bluetooth support. The bottom line: The T-Mobile Sidekick LX will continue to attract a legion of young fans with its fresh design and excellent messaging capabilities. We like the improved display, but wish there were improvements in the features department.”

The keyboard is quite nice, using the TRS80 bubble keys we all know and love. They are well spaced and easy to tap even with my meathooks.

CrunchGear Reviewed T-Mobile Sidekick LX and gave out “What the LX has done is remind me why I love the Sidekick series. It’s simple, easy-to-use, and stylish. The keyboard adds an amazing level of fluidity to everyday communication without the rigmarole of similar smartphones. And, I can say this with absolute certainty, the Sidekick IM support is the best there is. Nothing — I don’t care if it’s under WinMo, Palm, or Symbian — offers a similar and more immediate experience. Plus it comes with a carrying case.”

The Sidekick LX, designed by Sharp, boasts a thinner, smoother profile; a large, pristine WQVGA screen that incorporates high-definition LCD technology and iconic swivel display.

mobiledia Reviewed T-Mobile Sidekick LX and gave out “The new Sidekick LX is a true upgrade that this group will love, with new features that our customers have been craving. The Sidekick Nation promotion also gives our customers - who already send us fun and creative videos about the Sidekick - an outlet to show off how much they love their device…”

The T-Mobile Sidekick LX’s 3″ screen is spacious, bright and higher than the others in resolution, at 400 x 240 pixels. Typing is a bit easier on the LX, since the keyboard area is a bit wider and the keys themselves have more spacing than ever before.

The LX is available in dark brown and midnight blue, as you see in the gallery, and comes with a 128MB microSD card—not quite what you’re gonna want, but better than nothing.
