The TZ5 does a slightly better job than its predecessor of managing noise reduction and preserving detail at higher ISOs, though it’s still a ways from perfect.
The overall image look from the 1030 still works just fine for general snapshots, and is extremely printable in most cases (if a little bit artificial looking in a few), but more serious shooters will wish for more color rendering adjustments to tone the 1030 down.
The initial impression of the LZ10 is a good one. The front of the camera body is aluminium, while the back is plastic, but the build quality is up to Panasonic’s usual high standard.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ10 is a rather ordinary-looking, understated camera, especially in the silver finish - the black version looks much more professional.
Most of the A350’s competitors boast a slightly faster burst mode of 3 or 3.5 frames per second. We got a continuous rate of 2.5 fps for Fine-quality JPEGs using a super-fast CF card, the 4GB SanDisk Extreme Ducati (rated at 45MB/sec). We captured up to 7 RAW images at 2.1 fps (better than the 6 Sony claims). There’s no RAW + JPEG burst, and in that mode JPEGs can be set only to Large/Fine quality.
Housed in a retro design with a protruding lens and well-built metal body, the Samsung NV20 will certainly turn heads when you get it out of your pocket. When we were testing the camera, it garnered plenty of interest.
While the Kodak EasyShare M893 IS carries a relatively low price tag, it can be slow at times while the image quality leaves a little to be desired at times.
Pros: Excellent noise management. Solid color reproduction. VR lens.
Cons: Body is clunky and unattractive. Strange grip makes for awkward handling. Pricy for its class.
