The Nokia N76 is a slim and sexy clamshell. Audio quality was decent and the onboard speakers were sufficiently loud, although it sounded a bit hollow at times.Video calls weren’t fantastic and the music player stays open by default so you can access it without having to flip open the phone.

CNET Reviewed Nokia N76 and gave out “The good: Dedicated multimedia playback buttons on the top LCD; 3.5mm headphone jack; quadband with 3G; external microSD card slot; loud onboard speakers. The bad: When plugged in the 3.5mm audio jack restricts the opening of the clamshell; requires SIM card tray; difficult to open clamshell with one hand; no Bluetooth stereo; image quality sub-par…”

call quality was high and consistent on Verizon’s network, with plenty of volume for both conversations and the ringer.

LaptopMag Reviewed Motorola RAZR Maxx Ve and gave out “Unfortunately, Motorola hasn’t fully exploited its function-over-form design. The microSD slot is still buried behind the nearly impossible-to-remove battery cover. Also still missing is a direct note-labeled music key; as usual, the unlabeled Action button beneath the volume toggle does this job. Pictures taken with the 2-MP camera were above average–but not by much. We noticed fairly bright colors with a higher level of black than we’re used to…”

Cool design updates the aging RAZR a bit. Large external screen. Good call quality and features. Camera better than on most phones. Good GPS performance.

Infosync Reviewed Motorola RAZR maxx Ve and gave out “The RAZR Maxx Ve makes calls that sound every bit as good as its GSM / HSDPA cousin, the V3xx, which is to say that calls sound clean and clear…The external screen on the Maxx is probably the largest we’ve seen, a whopping 1.7-inch display capable of half-QVGA (160 by 120) resolution. The camera was better than most camera phones we’ve tested, perhaps owing to the autofocus feature. Colors were bright and accurate, and details were fairly sharp…”

We had no trouble getting a signal for making calls, and the EV-DO connection remained strong for most file transfers.Music Streaming-video quality was fine, but nothing spectacular. Videos tended to be quite grainy with some pixilation.

CNET Reviewed Motorola RAZR maxx Ve and gave out “The good: The Motorola Razr Maxx Ve offers a broad range of features, decent call quality, and an improved design. The bad: The Motorola Razr Maxx Ve had disappointing speakerphone and streaming-video quality. You can’t activate the camera when the phone is closed, and the front face attracts fingerprints. ”

The Muziq provided solid and loud connections with excellent voice quality, both through its earpiece and especially through the clip-on mic in the earphone adapter cable. The 1.3-MP camera produced surprisingly sharp pictures, but you can’t transfer any files from the phone via Bluetooth–a major aggravation.

LaptopMag Reviewed LG Muziq and gave out “The Muziq’s main improvements come on the rearranged interface. The main screen contains four stacked icons: Main Menu, Music, Send Text, and an On Demand feature that produces a pop-up window with the latest news headlines and local weather, as well as direct access to news, weather, sports, movies, and money sections. A Favorites soft key lets you configure direct access to a host of operations.”

All the nice music features of the Fusic, with a cheaper music store and better transfer software. Unexpectedly good e-mail app. Zippy multimedia performance.

Infosync Reviewed LG Muziq and gave out “Only the sub-par display held back the Muziq from being a stronger multimedia phone. Streaming videos on Sprint TV loaded very quickly, and shuttled smoothly, but the blocky display diminished the full screen viewing capabilities of the phone…The camera displayed photos with fairly accurate colors, but blurring was a serious enough issue that we won’t be taking pictures with the phone unless we run into Chris Rock on the street again. ”

It feels solid and comfortable in the hand and the way it displays photos, videos and Web pages on its gorgeous screen makes other smart phones look primitive.

AllThingsDigital Reviewed Apple iPhone and gave out “The iPhone’s most controversial feature, the omission of a physical keyboard in favor of a virtual keyboard on the screen, turned out in our tests to be a nonissue, despite our deep initial skepticism. The iPhone is missing some features common on some competitors. There’s no instant messaging, only standard text messaging. While its two-megapixel camera took excellent pictures in our tests, it can’t record video…”
